Today, I’ve got another POD device to show you, a little larger than most, that you could almost call a POD Mod with its huge power and equally large on-board battery.
Introducing the RPM2 Kit by Smok.
This pod system is not a super slim, slip it in your pocket device. This beast is a bit of a hybrid, but there is also a reason for that. Rivalling even the most powerful single battery devices, the Smok RPM2 Pod brings home the battery life with its 2000mAH on-board battery and whopping 80Watt maximum output, putting this device firmly in the POD/POD Mod category. Following in from the large battery and power output, is a huge 7ml e-liquid capacity pod, making sure you fill up less often when on the go.
On first look, the RPM2 Pod is rock solid. Built from Zinc Alloy, with mostly metallic finishes on offer, the build quality is simply excellent. The RPM2 has a flawless outer coat and zero rattle in either the buttons or the POD itself. The general shape of it is very cube like, not so round, but with rounded corners instead, and a really really small flat spot on the base. You’re going to need to be careful not to let this one fall over! It’s much better suited laying on its side.
From the top down, the rather large POD bay, contains 4 heavy duty magnets, and 2 pins that make contact with your POD, that you simply place into, as the POD easily snaps into place. These magnets are really strong, and there’s simply no way your pod is going to fall out under normal circumstances.
On the front you have a rather large fire button matching both Up and Down buttons. In between them is an impressively bright and spacious OLED colour screen displaying all of the information you might need to know, in what I note, a really clean and open format, really very easy to read. This is quite nice to see, as sometimes POD Mods can have very small displays with limited readability.
Off to the side of the base, you’ll also find a USB-Type C charge port allowing you to charge at a full 1.4 Amps.
In the kit’s box, I received 2 PODs, one for use with RPM coils, and the other for use with Smok’s newer RPM2 coils. Both are otherwise identical, with the coil type clearly marked on the red silicone fill plug on the side. As with all RPM and RPM2 coils, you simply push them in to install.
The PODS are completely clear with a nice gap in the POD creating a window allowing you to see juice levels at all times, when inserted into the body of the device. Just like the body, the POD also has 4 powerful magnets, that create a distinct ‘snap’ when inserting the PODs, ensuring that they not only have a really solid connection, but making sure that they do not separate from the main mod easily when in your pocket or out and about.
The whistle-style mouth piece is a little strange, and feels unusual in the mouth at first, but when you get used to it, it is quite comfortable. It allows you to take a nice solid draw without having to worry about lip placement or getting burnt lips from higher wattages.
The on-board battery is an impressive 2000mAH, so you can be sure that even at a decent wattage, your battery should last for the bulk of the day. If it doesn’t, then fear not, Smok have been kind and provided a USB-Type C charging port that charges the battery at a 1.4 Amp load, which should get you a full battery within the hour.
